I cut my teeth writing circulation copy at a tiny Michigan ad agency.

My workstation sat in back near the office trash bin; a ghastly thing I emptied twice each week. Our garbage was mostly take out and coffee grounds, but some days... Some days a biohazard team was better suited to handle that damned trash.

So I spent each day writing.

Every day I was studying my craft. Trying new things. Learning what worked, what didn't, and why.

Writing. Emptying trash. Studying. Emptying trash. 
Wash, rinse, repeat.

"So what do you do all day?"

When friends and family asked, I'd tell the truth... “I’m just sitting in the corner, paying my dues.”

Today, I'm a marketing and advertising professional with more than 15 years of combined agency and in-house experience.
